Costa del Sol Christmas

A Costa del Sol Christmas is an international affair, blending the traditions of the mixed community to include everybody. Here is just a small selection of events happening in Marbella and across the Costa del Sol this year.

The German Christmas Bazar will be held in Puerto Banús on December 5th. It includes a fine selection of German mulled wine, gingerbread and waffles.

The Spanish festive calendar starts of December 6th with a large public holiday (rolling to the Monday 7th in 2015). The whole country pays recognition to Dia de la Constitucion which is quickly followed on the 8th by Immaculada Concepcion. This is generally marked by large family get-togethers with many restaurants booked-out well in advance.

One of the most important events of the Swedish calendar is the celebration of Santa Lucia. The walk of lights is embraced in central Marbella by Swedish, Spanish and a vast array of other cultures alike. It is held on December 11th and starts at the Iglesia de La Encarnacion at 18:00. Young, Old, Swedish and everybody else are invited to join in the special celebration.

2 Concerts will be held in Marbella‘s Plaza de Naranjos by the renowned Choir & Orchestra of Collegium Musicum Costa Del Sol. Carols will be sung by the choir who will also be accompanied by Soloists and a trumpeter. The event commences at 20:30 and is free for all.

In addition to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, a very important part of the Spanish festive calendar is the 3 Kings Parade (held the evening before the Día de los Reyes Magos when more gifts are given)

Each area of Spain holds their own 3 Kings Parade on January 5th – normally starting at about 17:30. A new favourite is the San Pedro parade where the very utmost is made of the recently renovated boulevard attraction. Benahavís Kings tend to arrive by helicopter! Wherever you celebrate, a carnival atmosphere is guaranteed.
